General info about pneumatic cylinders

We sell a wide range of pneumatic cylinders from Airtac, who are known for their quality and expertise in compressed air.

Pneumatic cylinders are available in many different sizes and strokes. The most widely used cylinders are ISO 15552 and compact cylinders ISO 21287.

Why compressed air?
Compressed air is a form of energy that is used for a wide range of work processes in industry. This can e.g. be

  • Blowing/cleaning of filters, machines, tables, etc.
  • Air tools
  • Pneumatics/process air (control)

What is a pneumatic cylinder?
There are basically two types of air cylinders:

  • Single acting cylinder
  • Double acting cylinder

Below is an example of a single acting cylinder symbol:

The single acting cylinder consists of one cylinder, a piston and a spring. The air is sent into the chamber opposite the spring. When the air pressure is bigger than the spring force, the piston moves out or in, depending on the type. When exhausting the cylinder it lowers the pressure and the spring force causes the piston to move in the opposite direction

Below is an example of a symbol for a double acting cylinder:
The double acting cylinder moves because of the pressure difference in the two chambers. The size of the pressure difference determines the force the cylinder can produce. When the biggest pressure is behind the piston, the piston is pushed forward. When the biggest pressure is in front of the piston, the piston is retracted.

The various types of pneumatic cylinders

Pneumatic cylinder MI – MIC

ISO6432 cylinder Ø8 til Ø25 mm. AS standard witg magnet. Available with standard rubber damping or adjustable end damping.

Pneumatic cylinder SAI

ISO15552 cylinder Ø32, 40, 50, 63, 80, 100, 125, 160 and 200. Corrosion resistant. Available with or with out magnet. With seal around the piston so that cylinder last longer.

Pneumatic cylinder ACQ

ACQ compact cylinder. Ø12 up til Ø100 mm. Available with our without magnet. Cylinder sizes above Ø100 mm. on request. Read more about Pneumatic cylinder ACQ here.

Pneumatic cylinder TCM

Two guides of special bearing steel and linear bearing or bronze bearing guide. Used to prevent rotation. Withstands high torque and radial load. Compared to a standard cylinder for the same use, the horizontal impact resistance is doubled and has a stronger torsional rigidity. Space-saving, as the drive unit and control unit are part of the cylinder.

Read more about Pneumatic cylinder TCM here.

Compact cylinder ACE

Compact cylinders are typically 1/3 the size of a corresponding ISO cylinder, so this cylinder is ideal where space is liimited. With magnetic tracks on the cylinder that make it easy to install induction switches.

Pneumatic cylinder RMS

Compact and space saving solution with magnetic piston rodless cylinder with a mobile piston equipped with ring-shaped magnets. The mobile sled is also equipped with magnets. The slide slides freely along the main tube. There is dustproof insulation between the slide and the piston. The non-adjustable rubber stops and the adjustable pneumatic damping on both ends of the cylinder ensure a smooth movement.
