What is a spring plunger?

A spring plunger basically consists of a hollow, threaded housing in which there is a spring and a ball or bolt. In some cases the ball is movable.

Where are spring plungers used?

They are used for easy fixation of items where the influence of force is minimal. A spring plunger can act as a small ball lock. Unlike the indexing plunger, which must be manually released to be unlocked, a spring plunger is relatively easy to release with a limited force.

Types and materials

A large part of the spring plungers are available in steel and stainless steel, but also with plastic housing (GN 615.2 or GN 614.5). Some types are supplied with coating on the external thread for better hold (GN 615.3). Spring plungers can either be pressed in (e.g. GN 614), with a notch (e.g. GN 615) or with an internal hexagon (GN 616). A special model is the GN 614.2 spring plunger with a ball at both ends and a housing in brass.

It is also possible to get spring plunger GN 716, where the pressure is not at the end, but at the side. The spring plunger is available with a ball on one side or with two balls positioned opposite each other.

Vertical spring plungers are a variant where the pressure is not absorbed along the length of the spring plunger. In contrast, the pressure is taken across – vertically. Threaded type is GN 713, while GN 715 is for pressing. GN 714 is a variant without a pressure pin, where it is up to the user to insert the desired pin.

Spring plungers with signal

Spring plunger GN 615.7 is used for switches. Simultaneously with this,it is possible for the built-in switch to send signals. Stop with signal GN 251.2 comes with a hardened round head which acts as a fixed end stop.

Accessories for spring plungers

It may be necessary to mount a pressure pin in parallel on a plate. For that purpose, spring plunger holder GN 614.1 can be used.

For spring plunger with a large spring load and aneed for precise positioning, the GN 249 spring plunger is recommended.
